Exclusivley for Saddlebred Memories

Ever since she was a little girl, Jan Davenport has loved horses. She got it honest as her mother and great-grandfather were also horse fanciers. She started riding at an early age at a local saddle club. She would use the $8 her parents gave her to ride for an hour. After that she would clean stalls, water and walk hot horses just to be around horses and occasionally get to ride an extra hour for her chores.

Jan had a mother and uncle who painted so in college she decided to give it a try. Starting in pastels, she soon graduated to oils. The first horse she painted in pastels was an Arab that she copied out of a how-to-paint book. It took about six months to get up enough nerve to put the mane on that horse.

Many years later Jan and her daughter were showing horses. She decided to paint their show horses on canvas tote bags. Friends saw these and this lead to a business. Having always been crafty and clever, she soon started painting horses on skirts, clothes bags, neckties, etc. Soon burnout hit and Jan decided to take a break.

A few years ago Jan started twitching to paint some more items and take to a horse show. It took her a whole year to paint enough items. These 220 items sold out in 2 days.

Fast forward a number of years. Jan decided to do a charm bracelet for her and her daughter. Her love of horses resurfaced and the idea for a saddlebred bracelet was born. Her first idea was to use the paintings that she had done so each bracelet would be an original. To enhance that further, she decided to make each bracelet (and now she has added keychains) one of a kind.

Each bracelet and keychain is a work of art using various Thai and Bali silver and silverplate beads, Swarovski crystal beads and pearls, Czech fire-polished beads, polished pewter and other semi precious gems. All the loops are split rings (like keychain rings) and all the wires that can be are hand twisted.

Now 40+ years after all of this started, Jan is making bracelets with love and enjoying creating each and every one of them.
